Broadcast Solutions at IBC Show 2022

After the two-year break, Broadcast Solutions is keen to show its systems integration portfolio and product developments at this year's IBC show from 9-12 September 2022. Visitors find the company at two stands at 0.A01 and 10.C35.

Like in past IBC shows, Broadcast Solutions runs IBC's largest outdoor stand (0.A01) that serves as the home base for the company, where it shows examples of its systems integration portfolio. The company has two OB vans on display, reflecting the Group's international expansion and approach.

Mobile Production Tools

Since 2020 TVC has been part of the Broadcast Solutions Group and has added further workforce, know-how and construction resources to the company. One example is an OB van developed and built by Lithuanian systems integrator TVC solutions for Estonian public broadcaster ERR.

ERR is Estonia's largest media organization and government-owned radio and television public broadcasting company. It relied on TVC's experience building highly efficient OB vans.

TVC, part of the Broadcast Solutions Group, delivered an OB van with a unique coachbuilding design and technological solutions that works with up to 18 cameras and 19 workplaces.

This OB van's distinctive feature is its efficient use of internal space. TVC applied flexible coach design approaches and satisfied all ERR requirements. As a result, the OB van works with two program areas and offers five working areas in total. The vehicle is based on a box/body combination with two expansions.

Further features:

  • Main isolated equipment racks with a redundant cooling system
  • Shading area (4 workplaces)
  • 2nd program area (3 workplaces)
  • Main program and slow motion operators' area (10 workplaces)
  • Audio room with improved sound isolation (2 workplaces)
  • Special isolation and air-conditioning system to meet Estonian climate conditions

The second mobile production tool is a full-trailer OB van for Swedish production provider DMC, developed and built by the Broadcast Solutions Group.

Based in Sweden, DMC is one of the leading sports production companies in the Nordics providing OB and studio production services, media rights management or digital content and social media marketing. Broadcast Solutions has designed and delivered a 15-camera UHD/HDR OB van, pushing the company’s mobile production capabilities to a new level. The full-size trailer offers 14 workplaces and is equipped with Grass Valley cameras using Fujinon lenses. The production tool is centred around the Riedel MediorNet UHD/HDR decentralized routing system. It leverages a variable and modular workspace design with innovative workplace solutions. Low noise level design and best-of-breed air condition and air-cleaning systems complete the OB van. Part of the solution is Broadcast Solutions’s own-developed hi human interface broadcast and media control system.

Fixed Facilities

Video Assistant Referee (VAR) Systems

Broadcast Solutions has already implemented several VAR systems for different sports and leagues across the globe. We provide FIFA-certified VAR systems and implement VAR solutions in fixed facilities or mobile solutions such as vans or containers.

Recently Broadcast Solutions implemented VAR systems for the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA), which is now a FIFA-certified VAR systems user with the help of our systems. Therefore we implemented several VAR rooms at the Olympic stadium in Baku plus VAR systems in a van for stadiums not connected to the BAKU VAR hub via a dedicated fibre line. The Finnish Ice Hockey League trusts the VAR systems we developed and installed at Helsinki's Ice Hockey Production hub.

In 2022 we delivered two additional mobile Video Assistant Referee (VAR) and VAR video operation rooms (VARVOR) units to the Cameroon Football Association and CAF. This delivery follows the deployment of mobile VAR and VARVOR solutions delivered by Broadcast Solutions earlier in 2021 for the 2020 African Nations Championship, also known as the Championnat d'Afrique des Nations or CHAN, that took place in 2021. All matches of the Africa Cup in 2022 were under video referee surveillance with VAR systems delivered by Broadcast Solutions. Cameroon now uses six VARVOR solutions conceived and deployed by Broadcast Solutions.

Streamline OBVAR

We developed the Streamline OBVAR concept whereby live production and Video Assistant Referee (VAR) services are operated from a single unified, mobile platform. Designed explicitly for game coverage of four to eight cameras (in special cases, even more), these OBs host the gallery, the Video Operation Room (VOR) and the uplink capabilities.

This integrated platform dramatically reduces costs and speeds up in-field deployments for service providers. The Streamline OBVAR is available in different vehicle sizes with a number of available cameras, depending on the leagues and games to be produced and refereed.

Broadcast Solutions offers the Streamline OBVAR in a version for productions with more than eight cameras (OBVAR), four to eight cameras (OBVAR Light) and one to three cameras (OBVAR Xtra Light).

Fixed Studio Installations

Nokia Arena Tampere, Finland

Broadcast Solutions excels in the design and development of complex and future-driven fixed installations for broadcast, media and venue infrastructures. A recent example is the design and implementation of a turn-key media infrastructure at multi-purpose venue Nokia Arena Tampere, Finland. Nokia Arena sets standards as one of the most modern multi-purpose venues in Northern Europe, leveraging a highly flexible media infrastructure, giving the users the freedom to produce different events with ease. Broadcast Solutions Nordic was responsible for developing and implementing a Live Broadcast Technology Solution from the outset. The project’s heart is a master control room for managing, collecting, editing, and distributing video and audio signals within the venue and to outside partners.

The control room serves as a distribution centre for video, audio and commentary signals. On the video side, it controls and feeds all screens in the venue, such as the LED cube, boards, ice projector, Arena TV and digital signage. Its flexible approach also manages external broadcasts by forwarding signals to the OB van compound to a dedicated fibre link for broadcasters and distribution partners. Furthermore, the installation operates all in- and outgoing audio signals from the ice rink, feeding the arena PA, stageboxes around the ice rink and the PAVA system.

KPEDU Media School – Virtual Studio

Broadcast Solutions Nordic planned and delivered a turn-key virtual studio to KPEDU Media School in Finland to be used for educational and project purposes.

They main task in delivering a virtual studio environment to KPEDU Media School in Kokkola (Finland) was to provide the students with the latest technology in media production and to make the students to be the next media professionals. Therefore Broadcast Solutions Nordic designed and delivered a 50 sqm virtual set, covered by four PTZ cameras mounted on robotic systems by Techno Point. The virtual production runs with Zero Density’s Real-time Broadcast Compositing System Reality Engine, leveraging Zero Density’s RealityEngine AMPERE workstations.

Part of this EU-funded project is the goal to use the virtual set for product presentations and workshops of nearby companies to support the local business community. The virtual studio’s overall goal is simplicity and easiness of use. KPEDU’s focus is to teach the students the insights and knowledge of the latest broadcast and media technologies to enable them to start a career in the media business.

Product Developments

Broadcast Solutions not only excels in systems integration for OB vans, fixed facilities, studios and MCRs but runs its company-own product development departments. Several of our product news is on display at the IBC show.

hiLogo_4c_Pos-1

hi human interface

One example is hi human interface, the first real intuitive control software for broadcasting and media technology. It serves as the perfect man-machine link, an assistant, that leads users to the before complex process of workflow design and signal management in broadcast and media installations. We show hi human interface with a dedicated stand in hall 10.C35. hi human interface is a vendor-independent system that integrates easily with many different devices. Handling the system is easy with a device-agnostic GUI (with ease and touch-functionalities all users know from day-to-day mobile devices) or hardware panels that offer access to all relevant parameters and details of devices and complete infrastructure. With thought-through functionalities and "if-this-then-that" logics, it guides the users through the entire process and advises on the best way to develop workflows and trigger actions. The benefits are clear; in intuitive mode and stripped down to their essentials, extensive and complex systems can be learned and operated more quickly. And clear visualisation on the user interface keeps the users in control with a clear overview of proceedings at all times.
